Situated
a mile from the town, Fairford Station was never the most convenient station
for is customers, but it was never designed to be the terminus of the line,
merely another way-station on the route from Cheltenham to Oxford. Faced with
a mile long walk along the A417, or a shorter route through footpaths, it was
hardly suprising the bus stop in the middle of town became a more tempting proposition.
The buses also ran to useful places like Cheltenham and Swindon, rather than
an hours journey to Oxford.
